Introducing Embed
We’re thrilled to share a sneak preview of Embed Security and announce our $6M financing from Paladin Capital Group and leading angel investors. We’ve been building Embed in close collaboration with our customers and growing team. We founded the company with a clear mission: to cut through the noise of cyber alerts and help security teams focus on what’s real. This is an increasingly critical challenge in cybersecurity, and we’re humbled to take it on.
Our Backstory
The seeds of Embed Security were planted a decade ago when we first met at FireEye/Mandiant. By then, Seth had already spent more than a decade in cybersecurity, building deep expertise at the NSA and during Mandiant’s early days. He led incident response teams, reverse engineered malware, and conducted advanced research that shaped new product capabilities. Jeff had just arrived from NSA Research, following his PhD work at UMass’s Autonomous Learning Lab, where he developed algorithms for reinforcement learning agents.
Our collaboration revealed the powerful potential at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. Together, we developed award winning machine learning (ML) models for malware detection, pioneered behavioral detection techniques, and created systems to derive meaning from complex threat intelligence data. These innovations were deployed in security products protecting millions of assets worldwide, enabling better threat prevention, detection, and prioritization. Along the way, we gained invaluable experience in maintaining AI models in real-world conditions.
Yet throughout our careers, one persistent challenge stood out: security teams struggling to effectively investigate and triage an endless stream of alerts. We witnessed firsthand the burden this placed on our colleagues providing 24/7 managed detection and response services. Despite significant industry investment, existing solutions remained inadequate. Four out of five security teams still report overload, with less than half of alerts even being reviewed (per IBM and Sumo Logic studies). We knew there had to be a better way. Although our paths temporarily diverged to Meta and Google, we ultimately reunited to tackle this challenge head-on as Embed Security.
Why Now
Recent advances in large language models and AI architectures have opened promising new possibilities for automating complex cognitive tasks. While previous automation attempts were constrained by rigid, rule-based workflows, today’s AI systems are beginning to understand context, adapt to new scenarios, and assist with security analysis in ways more closely mirroring human analysts.
True to our past experiences, we believe a thoughtful combination of AI capabilities and human cybersecurity expertise is the key. Embed’s agentic security platform is trained to align investigative models with security expert reasoning. We enable security teams to turn down the noise, lowering the time to respond and effectively reducing risk for their organization.
Building reliable systems that security professionals can trust demands solving complex technical challenges – particularly around consistency, accuracy, and transparent reasoning. We understand that establishing and maintaining this trust is fundamental to our mission.
These technological advances coincide with an increasingly urgent need. Security teams face a perfect storm of escalating threat volumes, growing infrastructure complexity, and a persistent skills shortage. Traditional approaches to scaling security operations – simply adding more tools and people – are no longer sustainable. The industry needs a fundamental shift in how we approach the problem, and we believe AI-driven automation is the key to this transformation.
Stay Tuned
This is just the beginning of our journey, and we’re incredibly grateful for the partners who are joining us along the way. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Paladin Capital Group for their trust and support in our vision. Their expertise in cybersecurity makes them an ideal partner as we build Embed.
We’re also deeply thankful for the exceptional team members who have chosen to join us in this mission. Their talent, dedication, and shared commitment to solving one of cybersecurity’s most pressing challenges has already proven invaluable as we build our platform.
We’re excited to share more about our technology and how we’re helping organizations transform their security operations in the coming months.
